WHO WE ARE

At human eXperience, we are dedicated to the belief that every human has value.

We believe that everyone deserves time, respect, care, and attention, especially in a world where empathy and humanity can be easily overlooked. That's why we lead by example, using our professional skills and expertise to serve vulnerable populations. Our unique focus on combining architecture and operations allows us to craft human eXperiences that empower and heal, because at the end of the day, it's not about the building, it's about the people.

At our core, we are a behavioral health firm that does architecture, not the other way around. Our mission is to elevate patient safety, create beautiful therapeutic spaces for healing, and establish viable long-term programs. Through our design and consulting work, we advocate for all stakeholders in behavioral health, including patients, hospital administration and staff, and healthcare architects. We strive to make a difference in the world by combining our beliefs with our years of experience.
"No matter what project we take on, we do the right thing, for the right reasons. Always."
Sherri Reyes, M.A. - Principal & Behavioral Healthcare Consultant human eXperience

Since our founding in 2018, hX has emerged as a leader in the field of behavioral healthcare design. What sets us apart is our unique combination of in-house expertise as architects, planners, and behavioral healthcare consultants. This comprehensive knowledge equips us with a deep understanding of the operational intricacies, patient needs, and regulatory compliance specific to behavioral healthcare. With this advantage, we bring invaluable insights to every project, enabling us to collaborate effectively with clients and larger firms to deliver exceptional results.

Our extensive portfolio showcases our successful completion of a diverse range of projects, both large and small.
As a prime architect, we have spearheaded significant initiatives, including the design of the Psychiatric Research Clinic for Duke University's School of Medicine, the Cabarrus County Behavioral Health Facilities, and the Mecklenburg County Facility Based Crisis Center.

We have also collaborated with larger firms, leveraging our expertise as behavioral healthcare consultants. Our contributions have been instrumental in major projects such as the Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center, the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence at Duke Regional Hospital, the John S. Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center at UT Health Houston, and the Neuropsychiatric Replacement Hospital for UCLA Health in Los Angeles.

At hX, we are not just architects; we are behavioral healthcare consultants who prioritize the well-being of patients and the operational efficiency of facilities.

I really appreciate Sherri and Kevin’s knowledge and expertise. They can even teach an old dog like me a new trick. One day while waiting in a hallway for a conference room to open for a client meeting, Sherri and I watched with interest as a group of staff went into the nearby gymnasium for an in-service patient management training exercise. As we watched, Sherri turned to me and said “Well, there’s the problem!” and then proceeded to elucidate how the intervention techniques being taught had been abandoned in favor of newer training long ago at other peer institutions and was able to tie this observation to some otherwise mysterious related phenomena at that hospital, thereby better equipping our team to work proactively for the benefit of this new client in programming and planning their new building.
