UCLA Health Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital
In partnership with HOK
Introducing the UCLA Health Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, a groundbreaking project aimed at revolutionizing behavioral health treatment services. With an estimated potential of $12 million in additional net revenue opportunities and $5 million in annual operating costs savings, this new psychiatric hospital is set to transform the landscape of mental healthcare.
Through a winning design build competition, the collaborative efforts of hX, HOK, and McCarthy have secured the responsibility of fully designing this state-of-the-art facility. Overcoming challenges posed by an existing structure with low floor to floor heights and intricate floor plate layouts, the team has been meticulously crafting a design that maximizes both bed count and operational efficiency.
Comprising 119 beds, a dedicated Psychiatric Urgent Care/ED, an ECT treatment suite, and accompanying academic and research space, this project encompasses the diverse needs of modern psychiatric care. Sherri, a key team member, played a pivotal role in evaluating numerous stacking diagrams, revealing a staggering $30 million difference in annual operating costs among various options, while construction costs remained relatively unaffected.
Armed with this crucial insight, the team made informed decisions early in the design process, ensuring the hospital's viability and success upon its grand opening. The UCLA Health Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital promises to be a beacon of hope and innovation, heralding a new era in mental health treatment and care.
