Minneapolis, MN
The Hennepin County Youth Stabilization Center includes a 13-bed Crisis Stabilization unit and 5-bed Withdrawal Management unit serving youth ages 8-17 with complex behavioral health needs in and around Minneapolis, Minnesota. The 13-bed Crisis Stabilization Unit is divided into two independent neighborhoods that have access to family resources, classroom education, and therapy consultation. An especially impactful feature of the project is dedicated access to a safe, outdoor space with an adjacent indoor activity room for those cold winter months. The project included the partial renovation of three floors of a hospital building originally constructed in 1910. Multiple tenants in the building created complex planning solutions to solve safety, privacy, and life safety concerns. Thoughtful use of warm wood tones and residential details creates an environment that feels welcoming and familiar.
